Positive: We had a really lovely stay at Adiwana, and the biggest highlight was definitely the staff and the service. Everyone was incredibly friendly, attentive and genuinely helpful. Even when they didn’t immediately know the answer to something, they would always make the effort to check, find out and come back to us. You really feel that they care about the guests and want to make the stay as comfortable as possible. The hotel itself is beautiful, especially the surroundings, the greenery and the pool area. It has a very charming boutique-hotel feeling, with staff always around to help, greet you, bring extra water, offer housekeeping or change towels. They were also very flexible with things like breakfast requests and small changes, which we really appreciated. The location is also really beautiful. It’s outside the busy central part of Ubud, next to rice terraces and surrounded by greenery, so it feels much more peaceful and is also a great base for exploring the surrounding area and doing day trips
Negative: One important thing to know, though, is that the hotel is just outside the regular Grab pickup area. Taking Grab from central Ubud back to the hotel was usually fine, as long as we explained or directed the driver, but ordering a Grab from the hotel was much more difficult because drivers often weren’t familiar with the location and we had to call and explain where to come. The hotel does provide a shuttle to and from central Ubud, which we used several times and worked very well, but it only runs about every two hours, so you do need to plan around the schedule. When we first arrived, we were a little disappointed with our room on the fifth floor. There were some stains on the curtains and walls, scratches and signs of wear, and overall it didn’t feel as fresh or welcoming as we expected. We mentioned it to the staff the following day and they handled it extremely well — they apologized, immediately moved us to another room on the first floor and made sure we were comfortable. The second room was nicer and had a better view, and the way they dealt with the situation was a great example of their service. Most of the downsides for us were small design details in the rooms that individually are not a huge issue, but together slightly affected the experience. For example, the shower glass doesn’t fully enclose the shower, so every time you shower a lot of water ends up on the bathroom floor, which becomes annoying after a while. The sliding glass door to the balcony was also positioned right at the edge of the wall next to the desk and furniture, which made it surprisingly awkward to open and get outside. You have to slide the door almost completely to the side and then squeeze through the small space between the door and the desk. The first-floor room also had another small drawback because it sits directly underneath the lobby and restaurant area. At night, when everything else is quiet, we could sometimes hear chairs being moved or things being dropped upstairs.
